Cleator Moor

Christmas 2018 at Cleator Moor Church, by Rev Nan Pryde
I know that many of our circuit churches have been celebrating Christmas in many different ways this year. I thought I would tell you about the church at Cleator Moor trying to live out our Mission Priorities in our community.
The festival began when 37 young children from the Cleator Moor Nursery came and sang for us telling us the Christmas story. We called this event “Angel Voices” and the children certainly had angel voices. They were supported by parents, grandparents, family members and church members.
Every year the church hosts a “Memory Tree” event when people from the community write the name of someone they are remembering at Christmas and give a donation to charity. This year £200 equally divided between Hospice at Home and McMillan Nurses.
There were 2 carol services - a parade service with the Beavers and Cubs and community carol service which many people participated in led by our minister Revd Dr Wendy Kilworth-Mason.
For the past 2 years the church members have given a Christmas gift to the “ALL WE CAN” project of the Methodist relief and development fund. This year we donated £135 donating to the following projects: Precious Water; Bookworm; Super Stoves helping people to transform their lives in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Mission Priorities for Cleator Moor Methodist Church.
As a community of Christians in Whitehaven Methodist Circuit, we commit ourselves, together with others, to make the love of Christ known in word and deed by:
  • caring for those within our church community and outside it,
  • reaching out into the community, with the priority of supporting and encouraging work with children and vulnerable adults.
